Morocco trek in Atlas mountains, Todgha gorge and desert dunes 2024


Join us on an adventurous trek in the mythical Moroccan mountains and desert dunes.

Guided trekking adventure that takes us through the Berber villages to Toubkal, the tallest peak of Morocco. After 3 days wilderness trek we head to the adventurous Todra gorge and then the beautiful dunes of Merzouga.

Dates 12 to 20 October 2024. Small group sizes, so book early to avoid disappointment!

Get ready for a stunning tour of Morocco in our guided small trekking group. This trip is for the active and adventurous traveller, we stay in mountain huts or basic guest houses and spend our time outdoors in the mountains and desert hosted by amazing friendly locals.

Day 1: We meet in Marrakech airport where our driver will be waiting.

Transfer to Imlil, a small Berber village at 1700m altitude in the High Atlas Mountains. Our group has our own shared rooms with bathroom and separate single beds.


At the guest house we will run through the holisay itinerary and check paperwork: Cancellation, healthcare and travel insurance is compulsory for this journey, please bring proof of that to the first meeting.


Day 2: Imlil –Tizi mzik 2470m- ighoulidn Waterfall – Refuge Tazaghart.

We head for a 3 days adventure into the Berber villages and crossing a high mountain passes. We pass almond groves, impressive rocky peaks and stunning waterfalls.

Start your trek from Imlil 1700m, set off on a 7 hour trek out of the Imlil Valley and into the Refige Epene Along the way you will pass Tizi N’Mzik at 2,450m, the refuge at Azib n’Tansoult and the Ighouliden waterfalls.

Overnight in the historic Lipeney mountain hut at 3,000m where we share dinner and stay in dormitories.


Day3:  Refifuge Tazaghart 3000m–Agelzim 3500m Toubkal Refuge3200 m


The second day helps us acclimatise. After a slow and steep climb on the mountain paths to the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m, we will enjoy our pack lunch with a spectacular view over the Atlas Mountain Range. We continue down with the views over the Azzadene Valley down to the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut) where you’ll be staying overnight and sharing a bunk room with other trekkers tackling Toubkal early the next morning.


Day 4 Toubkal Summit – Imlil

Up early for the climbing Mt Toubkal (4,167m) from where, clouds allowing, you’ll have wonderful views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert. The summit day is not obligatory as we do this as a return trip from the hut.

From the summit you will then take a long way back down, passing the refuge and finally taking the well-worn path back to Imlil. This is a fairly demanding day with 8-9 hours of trekking, involving 900m up then almost 2,500m back down to Imlil! Overnight at the guesthouse in Imlil.

Day 5: Imlil ——–> Ait Benhaddou—— Todgha .

After the breakfast make our way to  Todgha gorges passing through the highest pass of Tichka 2260m above sea-level to enjoy the view over the high Atlas Mountains then to visit one of the most Moroccan iconic site of Ait ben Haddou, walking about one hour to explore the winding streets of the fortified town.

We continue our journey to Todgha gorge where you will spend the night .

Day 6: Todgha gorge ——–> Merzouga .

Today take a 1h walk in the fertile oasis to explore the daily life of the berbère.  Then we transfer to Marzoga, ride dromedaries to into an amazing view of the sunset. You will spend the night in well set up camp under stars of the Sahara.

You can book to try out sand boarding at Merzouga, please confirm this beforehand.

Day 7: Merzouga—–> Marrakech.

Wake-up early Morning to catch the view of sunrise. Breakfast at the camp and takes a long journey driving back to Marrakech with plenty of stops.  We spend our last nights in a Riad right in the heart of the old Medina and it’s lively market stalls.

Day 8: Marrakech :

Around 9am meet with your local guide for Médina walking Tour to explore the sightseeing of red city of Marrakech including the visit of Ali Ben Yaussef Madrasa, Mellah, Bahia Palace, souks you end the city tour at the main square of Jamaal Alfna. Free Afternoon to explore more of Marrakech as you wish, or visit a hammam of your choice.

Day 9: Marrakech— airport

Your adventure come to the end, derpart to the airport from our Riad as a group for our flights.
