This session is open to all, you don’t need any prior art or drawing experience. Everyone is welcome, all you need is a curious mind and respect of others in the group.
We meet in the beautiful Finalborgo, the medieval village just at the junction of two rivers, flowing from Pora Pora and Aquila valleys. It is filled with mountain biking and climbing shops, as well as gems of medieval architecture. We can get a swift breakfast coffee ‘al banco’ in the Italian style, while we check our art equipment and hiking gear- After filling up our water bottles before heading up along the ancient cobblestone highway up into the hills.
Day description
Depending on the weather and light, as well as the time of the year we choose a route that takes us to a comfortable and scenic first drawing break. This could be the fortified castle Forte San Giovanni with its elegant ramparts or the remains of an older fortification Castel Gavone with it’s stunning “Diamond Tower“. This is one of the most significant standing examples of the European Reneissance period castles built both as living quarters and fortifications. Option to have lunch at the beautiful hamlet of Perti Alto in a local countryhouse restaurant, booked by prior arrangement. Alternatively we walk along and either eat picnic sheltering in a large cave or taking in the sun on a little bench facing the sea.
Perti Alto has impressive views over the mountains and the sea and an elegant Reneissance church known as Cinque campanile or Nostra Signora di Loreto , very unique in such a rustic setting surrounded by the green nature and the cliffs of Finale.
In the afternoon we head for a second drawing session, chosen to suit the weather. We can choose a spot under the cooling canopy of the dense Mediterranean vegetation, shelter in a cave, or instead we may seek the sunshine for warmth.
Alternative directions for this hike are Caprazoppa with its majestic Mediterranean views, or Pienarella with intriguing prehistoric site.
